AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society..

AVID is not just another "college readiness program," but at its heart it is a philosophy of holding students accountabile to the highest standards, provide academic and social support and they will rise to the challenge.

AVID teachers use proven practices in order to prepare students for success in high school, college and career, especially those students traditionally underrepresented in higher eduction. Through research-based strategies and curriculum, Chemawa teachers are committed to developing students' critical thinking, literacy and math skills across all content areas, throughout the entire school.


  • Teaches skills and behaviors for academic success.
  • Provides intensive support with tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships.
  • Creates a positive peer group for students.
  • Develops a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination.

AVID students and teachers participate in the voluntary elective program and must commit for the remainder of their high school experience at Chemawa.
